My husband and I moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a little over a year ago. Soon after our arrival, I began leading our Women’s Ministry. My passion for reaching women is birthed out of Titus 2. As women, we have a responsibility to be mentoring/discipling each other so that we might grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. As I began looking for curriculum that was rooted in scripture, yet practical in application, I was directed toward Secrets Savored. I met several of the mentors and ministry participants at the Southern Baptist Convention last year. I immediately fell in love with the study because of the way in which it bridges the teachings of scripture with our role as women in the home. I wanted the women of our church to be passionate about their homes again, as well as their relationship with the Lord.
We launched this ministry in August 2013, and have over 50 women ranging in ages from 16 to 83 meeting in four groups. In just four short weeks, I have already seen God moving in the lives of our women. Our mentors love being able to pour into the lives of young women. Pamela Clouse, one of our mentors shared that years ago, when she was in her early 20’s, as a new wife, new mom, and one who was new to the community, she was mentored by a group of ladies. She has always treasured the investment of those ladies and has desired a chance to help young women in the same way they helped her. She stated that they didn’t have any curriculum to go by and that the Secrets Savored material is exactly what they needed. They certainly would have liked to have had it back then.
Our students love it! We’ve had ladies who have never cooked, but are now inspired to get in the kitchen and impress their husbands! We are enjoying our Bible study time as we have looked into the lives of the women in the Word. From Eve, we have learned that we as women can greatly influence the men in our lives. We have been challenged to use that influence in a God honoring way. The women at Woodlawn are excited about how God is going to work in and through Secrets Savored this year.
